Fractured vertabrae in neck causing major pressure on spinal cord
In December 2009 I had a nasty ATV accident after which I saw Doctor for several months, each visit ending with him telling me I had whiplash it would take 6 weeks to heal before sending me back to work with a box of panadeine forte. Later I saw an osteopath who was highly skilled, however it became apparent than more was wrong than was being acknowledged. She stopped treating me until further investigation.
I woke up each morning with no feeling to my hands or feet and when the feeling came back it would come back with pins and needles coupled with pain. I could not sleep well, my muscles felt constantly locked and neck was beginning to become hypermobile. By June 2010 my condition had worsened and I was experiencing pain every day, I could no longer work, I spiralled into depression.
Eventually, I finally managed to convince a different doctor to order a MRI. The results were not positive. I had fractured my vertebrae and the disk had worn down allowing the vertebrae to slip forward placing major pressure on my spinal cord. I needed to have cervical spine surgery before I could receive any treatment due to the severity of the injury.
I contacted Phill as my closest friend had recommended him while I was still in Tasmania and discussed my options with him. After the phone call I knew to be safe hands of the best we needed to move to Sydney after the operation and try Phill’s individually tailored and unique form of massage and the magical Scenar.
We do not regret the decision. My recovery did not go to plan, in-fact my symptoms worsened, leaving me with minimal movement, further loss of sensation to my feet and hands and a constant feeling of heaviness. I felt mentally unable to look after myself and I had persistent migraines and continence issues. After operation and a series of further scans I was told I had other fibromyalgia, multiple spinal injuries and would require lower back surgery at a later date.
Due to Phill’s unique, holistic approach and combination of Scenar and massage he was able to treat me when no other therapist was. Through the use of the Scenar device my nerves, which were badly damaged during the operation, began to settle. Phill was also able to help break up the scar tissue at the base of my skull causing some of the migraines. After my initial treatment was the first time I had truly had pain relief since the accident more a year before.
After my first treatment I felt confident and hopeful that I would indeed recover and be able to enjoy time with my children again.
Phill was the only therapist I trusted to treat me, he was the core of my pain management and still is. I cannot express my appreciation for his help in words. Due to being in his care I no longer require the back surgery or medication for migraines. I have been able to commence physio and Hydro to build my muscles back up. I am confident to find my limitations as I know pain relief is now always available.
I continue to see Phill on a regular basis and I firmly believe in his abilities. His treatments have kept me going . It has given me back to my children and amazing other practitioners who have treated me. My movement increases with each visit and I no longer experience most of the side effects I previously was.
My aim is to become medication free as I have been told that I will be required to take two medications for nerve damage and fibromyalgia for the remainder of my days. With the Scenar, I do not believe this for a second. I celebrate meeting a practitioner with as much experience as Phill regularly recommending him with full confidence to anyone in need of healing.
